2018 PEDESTRIAN SAFETY LAW
Montclair enacted one of the very first-in-the-nation "distracted walking" laws designed for students to get to and from school safely.

NEW CHIEF OF POLICE
We have a new Police Chief with a new “community first” attitude and I am very fortunate to have been a partner in the team supporting and working with Chief Avels from his first day as Chief. Under his leadership and our working relationship our community is safer, our Police are doing a great job, and our Youth are more involved than ever in positive activities at school, after school and at church. We are not done with our work. I’ll be advocating for more officers on the street with state of the art resources to get the job done safely.
LOWER CRIME RATES
Crime Rates have plunged in the last four years on average, with Adult arrests at 33% less than 10 years ago in 2007! (Source: Montclair PD Crime statistics- https://www.cityofmontclair.org/city-government/police-department/statistics-calls-for-service/police-statistics
Juvenile arrests are almost 60% less than what they were 4 years ago in 2013! The community based policing of which I am a strong advocate and supporter is helping keep our youth on the right path to good citizenship.
MONTCLAIR POLICE EXPLORER PROGRAM
The program is in it's second year.. Youth ages 14 - 20 participate in a year long program that provides invaluable life & career experiences for our Montclair teens. Many will choose careers in law enforcement and the program helps to guide our youth into great future leaders.
The City's economic development stimulates business growth to create local jobs.
The major areas of focus include redevelopment and expansion of new and existing commercial markets and capital improvement projects.
METRO GOLD LINE TO MONTCLAIR
In the last four years due to our efforts to bring the Metro Gold Line to Montclair we have developed and planned residential and commercial activity that will bring 1.5 -2 billion dollars of economic activity to Montclair through 2026! This economic growth creates new local jobs and revenues to the City which will allow us to provide greater community services for our city.
Developers in Montclair have constructed or are in plans to construct 700 new housing units. New developments such as Paseos, Arrow Station and housing in the south part of Montclair will help to house the new generation of residents Montclair will attract.
THE NEW MALL: MONTCLAIR PLACE
As you have witnessed the Mall has begun a major transformation in the past four years. Thanks to the investment in Montclair and our partnership with the principals of the mall, owners CIM Group, the mall is developing into a regional attraction for shopping, eating and entertainment. The new AMC dine-in theater, the new concert venue "The Canyon", and new entertainment centers for all ages will lead the mall into the "Place" to be!
NEW EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Education is a top priority of mine for our community. During my term I advocated to add a new committee to our City Council responsibilities. The new committee has forged a new working relationship with Chaffey College, Chaffey Joint Union High School District and Ontario-Montclair School District. Now our students have a better path on their journey through education.
"MONTCLAIR TO COLLEGE"
Our newly named program provides FREE TUITION to graduating Montclair High School students who want to attend Chaffey Community College which was recognized last year as one of the top 10 Junior Colleges in the U.S.!
MONTCLAIR MEDICAL CLINIC
Montclair is proud to offer low cost or no cost basic medical care to all our residents. No family will be denied basic healthcare when it's needed. Our location has newly moved but we will continue to offer basic medical services to our Montclair residents.
LALLY MEDICAL GROUP
In the past year, Lally Medical Group has located it's new business here in Montclair. The new medical practice will complement the medical businesses already here in Montclair and it will meet a growing demand for the need of medical services to insured Montclair families.
TRANSIT ORIENTED DISTRICT
North Montclair Specific Plan Update:
We are attracting developers and new businesses to Montclair because of our plans to make North Montclair a pedestrian friendly place to work, play and live. This type of lifestyle which also uses public transportation to commute will attract a new generation of Montclair residents.
NEW SUPERMARKET IN TOWN
We have newly developed a plot of land where construction has just begun on the new supermarket in the South part of Montclair. Cardenas Market, a Southern California chain of grocery stores, is coming to Montclair! The new location in Montclair will provide our residents more options to shop for groceries here in town.
NEW MAJOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS
* A new bridge over the Monte Vista Railroad crossing. This project will improve emergency services for our community because our Police cars or Fire trucks will not have to stop for a train crossing. Our resident's commutes will improve because of the free flow of traffic and doing business in Montclair will improve because transportation through Monte Vista will not have to be interrupted by a crossing train.
* A new bridge over the Central Avenue Railroad crossing. The current bridge will be replaced and modernized. This project will also improve emergency services for our community because our Police cars or Fire trucks will not have to stop for a train crossing. Our resident's commutes will improve because of the free flow of traffic and doing business in Montclair will improve because transportation through Monte Vista will not have to be interrupted by a crossing train.
*Bridge widening project at the Monte Vista Avenue freeway underpass. The North and South lanes will be increased in quantity to allow for a better flow of traffic and to help facilitate the increased use generated by all the new development in Montclair!.
* (Partial list...!)
I would be blessed and honored to continue serving as your Montclair City Councilwoman, representing the values that we share.
Being cognizant of a balanced budget and remaining steadfast in the path of progress seen throughout this beautiful City, I remain committed to public safety, access to educational opportunity for all, economic growth, and providing quality community services.
As a wife, mother of two daughters and resident for 27 years, I too want what is best for our City. My community volunteerism includes over twelve years at the Senior Center Nutrition program, community liaison to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School/Church, business relations for the Chamber of Commerce and member of the Montclair-Ontario Junior Women’s Club which helps charitable causes. As your Councilmember I am currently assigned to Human Services which oversees Youth, Senior & Community activities, the Chamber of Commerce and Education.
I am proud to work with Congresswoman Norma Torres, State Senator Connie Leyva, and Assembly Member Freddy Rodriguez on several projects: bringing the Metro Gold Line to Montclair, Active Shooter Response Training in our schools and teaching our youth – our future leaders, about civic participation.
I humbly ask for your vote and support. I am so grateful to be endorsed by Mayor Ginger Eaton.
